The name of the city Jabalpur is a combination of the Arabic word ‘Jabal’, which means ‘Mountain’ and the Sankrit word ‘Pura’, which means ‘City’; hence giving it the name- Jabalpur, meaning “Mountain City“. It is also believed that Jabalpur is the tapasya bhumi of a mythological figure known as sage Jabalie, from whom the name Jabalpur is derived. The City of Marble Rocks defines Jabalpur aptly.
